You Should Never Pay Full Price

If there is anything I have learned from past mistakes throughout my adult life that I will pass on to my children of what not to do and that would be “There are just something’s you should never by new!” As a newly savvy used product shopper I have come to terms with the fact that shopping for used products is a great way to save money. I have compiled a list of products that you should not buy new:

  • Maternity Clothing: Maternity clothing is so very expensive, and after paying for brand new maternity clothing for my first child and spending more for nine months of clothing than I do for regular clothing in a year, I quickly realized that I could purchase used the same brands and of the same quality maternity clothing. http://www.gently-used.com/
  •  Cars: A new car is a large expense nobody needs. With the right knowledge and research purchasing a used car is a wise investment. Not only do you save money on the initial cost of the car, but your car insurance is going to be a lot cheaper. In some cases you are able to purchase a used vehicle in full with no further monthly payments.
  •  DVD’s and CD’s: Music and movies is a huge market and the neat thing about this is peoples tastes change or they just become bored with a movie that they have already watched a few times. Some people sell or pawn their used DVD’s and CD’s and those places that buy these products most often than not only buy DVD’s and cd’s that are without scratches and work very well. A new newly released movie bought brand new can cost between $15 to $20 dollars depending on type, at a pawn shop or other consignment type store you could end up only paying $5 to $10 dollars. (Same with music CD’s)
  • Video Games: I know with my kids they become very bored with games after a while and if they end up beating or completing games it will never be touched again. In the same sense as with the movies and music buying used video games in some cases can save you have the price as buying new.
  • Clothing: My kids grow like weeds and buying clothing is a big expense in this household. I have learned there are great finds at thrift stores as well as consignment shops. Brand name clothing in any size and most times in great condition can be purchased for next to nothing at these stores.Thrift stores are also a great place to shop for one time holiday or special occasion outfits as well. Last year my daughter went to her first school formal dance, we went to the mall for a new dress and I was in total shock at the price I would have to spend for one night of dancing. I happened to check out our local Good Will shop and I found for half the cost the most beautiful dress that was perfect for her first dance. I even took it back the next month when I made a regular monthly trip to drop off our cloths that we had grown out of. Thrift stores are also a great place to shop for Halloween costumes you can find for cheap the right outfit to make your own costume and sometimes they will put out to be bought already put together costumes like the ones you can get in your local Wal Mart or K-mart for a few dollars cheaper.

I completely agree with you. It is a good idea to buy used things.

Other than before I was married, and my only expense was a car, I have never owned a brand new car. Once you leave the lot, the value already drops. Plus if you get a ding or two on a used car it doesn't hurt nearly as bad as the ding you are surely to get a week after buying that new car!!

This is very true. I'm a purchasing agent by profession and I hate paying full price. *grin*
