Ways To Save Money,That You Were Taught Otherwise!

I soaked up every thing my parents did, how they cooked, how they cleaned, how they handled there money.I still to this day say "well that's not how my Dad did it". Well, things have changed and it is not because my parents looking back on it now were dumb, it is because they were missed informed, or things have changed. New studies and new technologies simply things have just changed. Here are a few simple tips to help you save money they your parents may have taught you otherwise.

  1. You know that little nifty sticker your oil change guy puts on the bottom of your windshield, the one that say "see you back in 3,000 miles, so we can take another 40 bucks from you!" My father taught me that this was the most important thing you could  for your car, good maintenance included 3,000 mile oil changes. Not anymore, some auto experts are now saying with the new engines, and higher quality of oil we have today we can up that 3,000 to 5,000 and even 10,000. Doing it your self can save you some money on paying for the labor as well.
  2. Here is something that is so little you would never guess not only can it save you money but it is also better for your skin. Your bed sheets, I was taught as a child the higher the thread count the better the sheet. Ads, commercial and companies continuously promote their high thread count sheets as being super comfortable, and long lasting. Nope, not true first off the higher the thread count the less breathing your skin can do in them. Second, they are very expensive, in two ways to buy, and to maintain. Truthfully from my point of view "I can't ever tell the difference between high and low thread count, they feel the same, you can find them to look the same, and unless your taking scissors to your sheets they last just as long!" Plus, lower thread count sheets, wash and dry faster saving you money in laundry.
  3. OK guys time to turn those ceiling fans off, they do not keep an empty room cool, your sofa is not thanking you. Your utility company is! Leaving ceiling fans on in empty rooms is costing you an average of $35 a year. They don't really cool your room, they cause what is known as a "wind chill factor" that only makes your skin feel cool, it is not the entire room being cooled.

So, things improve technology, new research and tests are done, and sometimes just because the things we have always done are not the best most obvious choice does not mean we were wrong all along. It just means we know more now, we have grown, and it's time to change.

Thank you for these tips! I have to watch after my money, too especially because Christmas is coming closer and closer...I started bartering for some goods and services on http://www.BarterQuest.com and it helps me a lot. Not only that I can barter for present for Christmas, but right now, if you register and post an item you want to trade, you'll get the chance of winning an Amazon Kindle.

Good Tips! My mechanic husband agrees about the oil changes. I did not know about the higher thread count sheets -- thanks for that tip!

I bought some cheap sheets when we were first married and then some more expensive, high thread count sheets later. I still always want to use the cheap sheets because they are so soft and comfortable :)
