Tina Fey
Elizabeth Stamatina “Tina” Fey is an American actress, comedian, writer and producer. She has received seven Emmy Awards, three Golden Globes, four screen actors Guild Awards and four writers Guild Awards. Tina has been singled out as the performer who had the greatest impact on culture and entertainment in 2008 by the associated press.
Early Life
Tina was born on May 18, 1970 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, to father Donald Fey and mother Zenovia “Jeanne”. Tina attended Upper Darby High School where she was an honor student, a member of the choir, drama club and tennis team. Fey also was the co- writer of the schools newspaper and graduated in 1988. After high school Fey attended the University of Virginia, where she studied acting; she graduated in 1992 with Bachelors in drama.
Career
After graduating Tina moved to Chicago knowing about the improvisational comedy troupe, Second City . It was here that Fey picked up a day job at a YMCA to pay for the classes she took at Second City . In 1994 she joined the cast of Second City ; where she performed 8 shows a week for two years. It was while performing for Second City that Tina submitted several of her scripts to the NBC show Saturday Night Live. Eventually SNL hired Tina as a writer and Fey moved to New York, where in the start of her career at SNL she struggled. With persistence and hard work she became the first female head writer ever for the hit show Saturday Night Live . In 2000, Fey began performing as part of the cast for SNL, she and Jimmy Fallon became co- anchors for SNL’s weekend update segment. In 2001 Fey and the rest of the writing staff went on to win a Writer’s Guild of America Award for SNL’s 25thanniversary special. Fey then went on to develop a prime time project produced by Broadway Video and NBC Universal, and in October 2006,the pilot aired on NBC as 30Rock and it received reasonable reviews despite coming in third in its time slot. In 2007 Fey received an Emmy Award nomination for outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series and the show 30Rock itself won an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Other Works/Films
On August 13, 2007, Fey made a guest appearance on the children’s television series Sesame Street and she appeared as a guest judge on the Food Networks program the Iron Chef America . Tina has also appeared in films, such as Mean Girls,Date Night and Martin & Orloff . Fey along with her former SNL cast mate Amy Poehler also starred in the 2008 comedy film Baby Mama . In July 2010 it was announced that Fey will star in an upcoming comedy entitled Mommy & Me , alongside Meryl Streep.
Personal Life
Fey is married to Jeff Richmond, composer on 30Rock , they met at Chicago's Second City and dated for seven years before being wed. They together have one daughter born on September 10, 2005. Fey is also a supporter of Mercy Corps ; a global relief and developmental organization to end world hunger. Tina also supports the Love Our Children , which fights violence against children. In June 2010 it was announced that Fey would be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame sometime in 2011.
