Memory Improving Games
72
Not everyone is blessed with superior memory. Memory is a person's ability to store, retain and recall information and experiences. In children memory can be taught and as a person ages the ability of their memory skills can dissipate. A great way to teach memory skills to children and to maintain important memory skills in aging adults is by playing games.
Games to play to improve one's memory skills
Puzzles: Jigsaw puzzles are great games to play for fun and to improve one's memory for adults and children alike. Here a person must look at a picture, study the pictures for a few seconds, put the picture to the side and try to remember what the picture looked liked as they are searching through the pile of tiny puzzle pieces. Now this game activity will come easier to adults than it will to children but with practice comes memory perfection.
* Others forms of puzzle games that can have the same learning effect are search-a-words .
Matching Games: Memory match games like those I played as a child including Memory are great games to play especially for children. But even as an adult playing Memory with a child can give your brain a good memory workout as well. Now as opposed to when I was growing up Memory the game can be found with all sorts of different pictured cards, numbers, characters and even words.
- Memory Match Dinosaurs
- Memory Match Colors and Shapes
- Memory Match Opposite Words
- Memory Match Animals
Trivia Question Games: Trivia question games are great games to play to improve the memory of the young and the old. The neat thing about trivia question games is they are so easily accessible. You can now download them to your computer, gaming stations, mobile phones and they can still be bought at department stores. The questions that can be found in trivia games now a days can be based on a variety of different topics, literally there is something for everyone of any age. Sports trivia games, trivia games about popular movies and books, trivia games about a child's favorite cartoon like Spongebob and Blues Clues. The great thing about trivia games anyone can play and if you play the game over and over not only is your memory improving but your response time to the question improves. Trivia games as well are not just purely based on questions about people, places or things but now trivia games can be found pertaining to math and numbers.
Storytelling: Storytelling is a great game to play for adults and children as method of teaching and improving memory skills. A great option here and something I do with my children is to begin a story with a couple sentences and allow each child to take turns adding a sentence or two to my sentences. The object here is for the person to remeber what was told before so they can add to the story so in the end it all makes sense.
* Another great game along the storytelling line and something I remeber playing with the children in my class while I was in school was called "What will I bring on a picnic." The teacher (parent) would start with... My name is Miss. Smith I am going on a picnic and I will bring apples. The next person would add to that... My name is Tom I am going on a picnic I will bring apples and oranges. The third person follows with... My name is Mary I am going on a picnic I will bring apples, oranges and hot dogs. This can continue on and on. Great fun and great for the memory.

Memory games are awesome. I used to play one with a regular deck of cards. Had forgotten how much I enjoyed that game.
