Hemp
Hemp is the soft,durable fiber cultivated from the plants of Cannibis genus, and is cultivated for commercial use. In these modern times hemp is widely used for things such as paper,textiles, and biodegradable plastics. It is used for such things as health food, fuel. and medical purposes. The use of hemp as food commercially has grown considerably. As a crop Hemp is very environmentally friendly, requiring few pesticides, and or chemical fertilizers. Hemp is widely grown throughout the world, and Canada, France, and China are major producers of the product. Hemp is more imported to the United States, and our government does not distinguish between Marijuana and the non-psychoactive cannabis, used for it's commercial uses.
Hemp's Commercial uses
Food
Hemp seeds can provide a person with all the essential amino acids, and fatty acids to sustain a healthy life. The Hemp seeds can be eaten raw, ground in our meals, prepared as a tea, and used in baking, fresh leaves can be used in salads as well. You can even find products such as frozen waffles, tofu, and nut butters utilizing Hemp. The oils of the Hemp seed have also been used to produce a cooking oil similar to EVOO, and vegetable oil. The oil from the seed actually contain 80% essential fatty acids, it is a source of calcium and iron to boot. Hemp Seed also contains no gluten ,and is a great usable substitute in cooking for those with Celiac Disease. It has also be shown to relieve symptoms of eczema , and has a huge dietary supplement of omega-3, this is more than the omega-3 in walnuts.
Fiber
Fiber is the most valuable part of the Hemp Plant it is commonly called Bast, which is pertaining to the fibers that grown on the outside of the plants wood inside. This Bast fiber is what give the plant it's strength. Hemp fibers can be anywhere from 3ft to 15 ft long, and can be creamy white, gray, black and even green. The Hemp plant can produce about 10% more fiber than say cotton or flax, but the use of it's fibers have declined over the last couple of centuries. It was very popular because it was also a quick grower. It has also been used to make paper and sometimes used to make sails for sail boats.
Composite Materials
Hemp along with a mix of fiberglass, kenaf, and flax since 2002 has been used to make a composite panels for vehicles, this is primarily based on the cost factor and it's availability.
Jewelry
Hemp jewelry is the end result of knotting hemp twine, known as macrame, jewelry includes bracelets, necklaces, rings watches and many other adornments. Some features of the Hemp jewelry include bead work, use of wood products, it is very thick and colorful.
Other Great Uses For The Hemp Plant
Water And Soil purification, this crop can be used to clear impurities out of waste water, such as sewage's, phosphorus from chicken litter or other unwanted chemicals. It has also been used in cleaning contaminants at Nuclear Disaster Sites. Yet another good use for the Hemp plant because has height, dense foliage, and is high in density as a crop, this plant has for a long time been used as a method of killing tough weeds, farmers if using hemp this way can avoid using herbicides. Lastly, but most interesting is bio fuels, and alcohol fuels can be produced from Hemp seed oils in the seeds and from in the stalks. Fermentation of the plant in it's whole, filtered Hemp oil can be put directly to power diesel engines.
