Shop or Grow Organic

One way of becoming healthy and living a healthier lifestyle is consuming organic foods. Consuming and growing organically is not only better for the environment but, the food taste better and there is no fear of chemical contamination on the foods you are putting into your body. Organic food compared to conventional food products tend to be a bit more expensive, which can turn people away from shopping organically. There are several ways to eat organically and save you money. Below I have listed different money saving ideas if you choose to shop organic and steps you can take to go one step further in saving by growing an organic garden.

Coupons for organic foods are obtainable in your local ads and supermarket flyer's. You can also go online and sign up for newsletters and email promotions that offer you coupons on organic products. One such online site is MamboSprouts.com . Shop and record prices at a couple different local supermarkets, prices always change and keeping an eye on the stores that offer the best price is a good way to save a few extra cents for organic products. When the seasons permit shop at your local food fairs and flea markets. Warehouse stores like Sam’s Club and Costco offering organic food products in bulk and generally shopping in bulk is cheaper than your regular grocery stores. You may even consider growing an organic garden.

The best way to eat organic foods is to start your own organic garden. Having an organic garden gives you the freedom of growing as much as you like and growing the things you like. For an organic garden to provide you with a successful harvest a few simple things need to be done. First and most importantly your soil must be healthy and packed full of nutrients; you can achieve this by using compost and or all-natural fertilizers. If you choose to use fertilizers most gardening type stores sell all- natural fertilizers. If you choose to compost you are actually achieving wonderful planting soil, and you are cutting down on waste. Composting is time consuming especially in the beginning, it is recommended composting your soil for up to a year before your first plant and the end result will pay off. After you have your soil in top notch condition you are going to want to choose the plants for your garden wisely. Consider choosing a mixture of heirloom and hybrid seeds. You are going to want to start your plants inside around late winter to early spring. Thinning your plants and leaving only the strongest survivor in the pot, in doing so this leaves the strongest plants to maintain maximum growth potential. When you are sure the last frost has passed transplant your strong and healthy plants to your outdoor soil. Once you have your plants in your garden mulch around them with hay or straw to maintain a good moist soil. Remember you are not using chemicals this is an organic garden, if insects are problem mesh netting should be used to keep them away instead. Organic gardening may be time consuming but the benefits outweigh the time and energy spent. Making your own compost is easy as well. Using a 55 gallon drum with holes drilled along the side for breathing and cooking compost. Composting is an excellent way of reducing trash as well as feeding your soil. throw food scraps and animal waste, leaves and mowed grass right in your drum and let the magic happen.

So either which way you go you can be healthier and help the environment by consuming organic food products. There are several online sites like the one I provided above to find deals and promotions on organic food products. Also with a little time and effort you can have your own beautiful organic garden that will provide with as much or as little organic foods you desire.

Interesting Hub, composting is indeed a solution to many problems and the satisfaction of eating what you grow is second to none. Though I have very little space I grow many herbs and tomatoes in pots with compost.. I love it!
